Obituary

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Cordelia “Cordie” Conley-Bear went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family.

Cordie was born in Des Moines and lived her life in the Des Moines metro area. She went to Tech High School and then graduated from Broadlawns Nursing School where she obtained her RN degree. Cordie spent her entire working career as a nurse, specializing in I.V. therapy in the last few decades. She was the most wonderful nurse, full of compassion and empathy for her patients. All of her patients loved her.

Cordie loved spending time with her girls, Janis and Jodi, and her grandson, Cody, who was the light of her life. The shopping trips she took with her girls were one of her favorite pastimes. Holidays with her beloved brother and sister, Furman and Chriss, and their families were always a priority and a big part of keeping the family together. In 2013 she married Jim Bear. They went with her church family on a vacation to the Holy Land, which was the trip of her lifetime.

Cordie was a lifelong member of First Church of the Open Bible. She fulfilled many roles in her church life, but her passion was being on the Worship Team. Her voice was so beautiful and she loved music and singing.
Cordie had the most infectious laugh. She loved life and laughter was a big part of it. Her smile would light up a room, and once you met her, she was impossible to forget. She was a wonderful mother and the best grandmother anyone could ever ask for. But most importantly, Cordie loved Jesus. She dedicated her life to Him and is now with Him, in Glory, without any pain.

In her last act on earth, Cordie continued to show compassion and love for others by being an organ donor.

Cordie is survived by her daughters Janis Conley, Jodi (Jim) Zimmerman; grandson, Cody Conley; husband, Jim Bear; brother, Furman (Angie) Conard; sister, Chriss (Sam) Camus; many nieces and nephews; and step grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ethel Conard; her first husband, Stephen; and her brother, LeRoy Conard.

Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the First Church of the Open Bible in Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 4-7 p.m at Iles Westover Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
