Obituary

Dale Raymond Forrest passed away on September 10, 2007 at Mercy Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Westover Funeral Home, with burial at the Masonic Mausoleum.

Dale was born on November 23, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois and he moved to Des Moines, Iowa as a youth residing in Des Moines for the rest of his life. He graduated from North High School. He enlisted in the Navy on February 21, 1944 and served on the U.S.S. Caps. On December 2, 1949, he married "Tootie" Perkins. In 1960 Dale started Forrest and Associates Masonry Contractor business and retired in 1996. He enjoyed playing softball and was inducted in the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Acanthus Masonic Lodge and Za Ga Zig Shrine serving as Potentate in 1972. Dale loved playing golf, watching the Iowa Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, eating lunch with his best buddies, and watching his grandchildren in sports and jazz band.

He is survived by his wife, Tootie, daughter, Wendy (John) Vaubel of Okoboji, Iowa, his grandchildren Elizabeth, John, and Charles Dale Vaubel, two sisters, Nancy Fagen (Elmer) and Helen Dix of California and two brothers, Lou (Carol) and LeRoy (Sheryl) of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents Truman and Hazel Forrest and his brother Elmore Forrest.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Westover Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children and the Animal Rescue League.
