Obituary

Dale William Bock, 74, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Des Moines, of which he was a member. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Dale was born on August 19, 1934 in Templeton, Iowa to William and Colette (Hinners) Bock. He attended elementary and high school in Carroll, Iowa, where he played on the football, basketball and track teams. Dale worked for Western Electric from 1952 until transferring to Northwestern Bell Telephone (QWEST) in 1964. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959. Dale retired from QWEST in 1987.

In 1960, Dale married Rose Michels at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. They made their home in Des Moines and later Clive, where they raised their three children, Melissa, Beth and Laura. Dale enjoyed golf, sports memorabilia, stamps and home improvement projects, as well as volunteer work.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 50 years, Rose Bock of Clive; three daughters, Melissa (Perry) Singer of Highland Village, TX, Beth Bock of Bellevue, WA and Laura Bock of Des Moines; one brother, Dennis (Donna ) Bock of Edina, MN; three sisters, Janet (Richard) Johnson of Waukesha, WI, Judith Bock of Greensboro, GA and Carleen (Milo) Tiefenthaler of Eau Claire, WI; two grandsons, Ben Singer and Jake Singer both of Highland Village; and many nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.
