Obituary

Dallas Long died Sunday at the Iowa Veterans Home in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at Union Park Baptist Church, 821 Authur Avenue at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Dallas was born July 11, 1921 in Fulton County, Illinois to Willie and Audrey Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene, Junior, and Howard Long; and his son, Dennis Long.

Dallas served in the Coast Guard and Navy in WWII. He retired from the Navy in 1967. He worked for 19 years at the Principal Financial Group as a Stationery Engineer. Dallas also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and volunteering at the Veterans Hospital.

Dallas was a member of the Union Park Baptist Church, The Fleet Reserve Association, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Navy Memorial Association.

Dallas is survived by his wife, Marjorie Etta; a daughter, Karen Sue Olson (Larry); and his son, Barry Wayne Long of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, February 1, 2010 at Westover Funeral Home. Family will be present from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Union Park Baptist Church.
