Daniel L. Perry, 65, died of lung cancer Saturday, July 14, 2007 surrounded by his family at home. Danny requested no funeral services, but the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation.

Danny was born April 1, 1942 in Centerville, IA to Lester and Opal (Clemons) Perry and lived in Des Moines most of his life. Before retirement, he worked as a truck driver for 8 years at Rock Island Motor Freight followed by 22 years at Yellow Freight. He was in the U. S. Air Force and later AmVets Post No. 2. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 109 and Teamster Retirees Local No. 147. He was also a member of the Eastgate Masonic Lodge No. 630 and active in the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine where he participated in the Hole-In-One Club, Ambassadors and the Hillbilly Clan 115. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their ball games and playing golf and cards with friends.

Danny is survived by his wife of 46 years, Denise Perry of Des Moines; two daughters, Dana (John) Chaplin and Danyce (DeDee) Perry all of Des Moines; son, Danny Perry, Jr. of Sioux City; four granddaughters, Abbie (Brad) Fahrendholz, Heather Perry, Kayla Trumbo and Jerilynn Perry; five grandsons, Travis Perry, Grady Trumbo, Bobby Dan Perry, Cody Perry and Danny Perry III; three great grandchildren, Jayden, Bailee and Bradyn; two brothers, Glen (Joan) Perry and Bob Perry; two sisters, Joyce (Jerry) Billings and Diana (Ron) Kochhaster; five brothers-in-law, Jerrel (Naomi) Smith, Dennis (Judy) Smith, Don (Dixie) Smith, Terry (Judy) Smith and George Chance; and many nieces and nephews. Many people knew him as “Dad” and “Grandpa.”

Memorial contributions are being directed to the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine or Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.
