Darlene Christensen Obituary

Darlene A. Christensen, 85, passed away on November 25, 2024. Darlene was born December 1, 1938 in Barnes, Kansas to Chester and Mildred Specht .Darlene retired from the Des Moines Public School District with 30 years of service. She was a member of College Avenue Christian Church until its closing and then a member of Glen Echo Christian Church.

Darlene was known as an accomplished cook and pie baker. She was known for her sour cream raisin, rhubarb, and coconut cream pies. There was always pie when you came to visit James and Darlene and you never left hungry. She also enjoyed garage sale-ing and gardening.

She is survived by her spouse, James Christensen of over 60 years; sons, Rodney D. (Bobbie) Perkins of Carson City, Nevada and Tony L. (Barbara) Perkins of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Cori (Lance) Quenga, Christen (Adolph) Rodriguez, James (Janella) Perkins, and Stephanie (Daniel) Musgrave; great -grandchildren, Erin and Enrique Quenga, Averie, Zoey, and Sofia Rodriquez and Eleni and Cora Musgrave.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the ARL of Iowa or DMARC Food Pantry. Darlene loved animals and James and her were significant supporters of helping the homeless population in Des Moines.
