Obituary

David Arnold Hoak (75), of Des Moines, Iowa passed away, on July 6th, 2022.

David was born on September 28, 1946 to James and Jane Hoak in Eugene, Oregon. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa he went on to receive a B.A. in accounting from the University of Iowa and then received an MBA from Northwestern University.

After graduation David joined his father at Wheeler Consolidated, Incorporated where he worked for 51 years. At his death David was owner and Chairman of the Board of Wheeler.

David was involved in many civic and business endeavors during his lifetime. Among them, he was a member of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), World Presidents’ Organization(WPO) and Chief Executives Organization (CEO). He served as Iowa Chapter President of YPO, as well as serving on the YPO International Board. He also chaired the Central Area Conference of YPO. His closest tie to YPO, WPO and CEO, however, was the Top Gun Forum where he was a member for over thirty years. At the University of Iowa David served for more than 20 years on the Board of Directors of the Center for Advancement. David was on the Board of the local branch of Bank of America in Des Moines, Iowa and President of the YMCA Metro Board. David enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Lost Tree Club, Castle Pines Golf Club and Wakonda Club. In addition, David was a devoted follower of Iowa athletics. Additionally, David found enjoyment rediscovering the game of bridge. For the last eight years his true joy and passion were his four grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jane Hoak. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his son Michael (Caroline), son Jonny (Jacqueline) his grandchildren Tucker (8), George (8), Emerson (5) and Sawyer (2) and his brothers Jim (Nancy) and Jon (Fran).
