David Babcock Obituary

David John Babcock, 96, passed away July 27, 2024, at the Brio of Johnston (Iowa). He was born September 26, 1927, in Sandusky, OH to Walter Gleason & Annabelle (Ontko) Babcock.

David joined the United States Army on January 30, 1946, and was discharged July 31, 1947, serving as a medical tech. He met Maxine Marek while they were both serving in the army. They were united in marriage on May 1, 1947, and to that union eight children were born.

David was employed his entire married life in the trucking industry until retirement from Crouse Cartage Company.

David is survived by his children, John (Carolyn) Babcock, Tom (Dorothy) Babcock, Mark (Linda) Babcock, Bill (Anne) Babcock, Katherine (Daniel) Hundt, Carolyn (Johnny) Merical, and Bruce (Sherri) Babcock; 27 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren and brother, Robert Babcock (Age 100), He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine on October 19, 2007; his parents, and his son, Jeffrey Babcock, and grandson Joseph Babcock.

Visitation will be 12 PM - 2 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Iles Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA with the funeral service to start at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines with United States Army providing the Military Honors and VFW Post 9127 Honor Guard providing the Rifle Volley.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
