Obituary

David (Dave) LeRoy Kendall died on November 8, 2023, at the age of 69.

Dave had battled several severe health issues later in life but did so without complaint, often saying, “I’m fine.”

Dave loved his family, the Iowa State Cyclones, his 1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and his dog George. He is survived by his wife, Patty (Lincoln) Kendall; son, Justin (Marci Beadle); daughter Dawnae Sheehan (Brandon); granddaughters Emersyn, Maddie and Sophie; brother, Mark Kendall (Patti); and sisters Janet Wicker (Merrill), Joyce Lawson (Frank), and Nancy Pies (Steve), along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Velma Kendall, his mother- and father-in-law Lyle and Darlene Lincoln, and his nephew, Chris Kendall.

Dave was born to Roy and Velma Kendall on April 15, 1954, in Clarinda, Iowa. He was the second youngest of five children. In 1956, the Kendall family moved to Madrid, where he graduated from Madrid High School in 1973.

Dave and Patty were married on April 23, 1976. They had two children, Justin in 1977, and Dawnae in 1981.

After high school graduation, Dave completed truck driving school before starting as a truck driver for Archway Cookies in Boone, Iowa. Dave drove for Archway until a diabetes diagnosis in the 1980s prevented him from going on runs. Dave then moved to a role as a transportation supervisor.

Dave left Archway for Jacobson Transportation Company in Des Moines, where he served as a dispatcher. The Iowa Motor Truck Association honored Dave as an Outstanding Dispatcher in September 2005.

After leaving Jacobson, Dave joined Bridgestone Firestone in October 2010 and worked at the tire factory until his retirement in April 2019.

Beyond his family, Dave’s passion was the Iowa State Cyclones. He was a season ticket holder for Iowa State men’s basketball for several years, as well as Cyclones football. He loved attending games with Justin and friends, and traveling to bowl games across the country. He also loved regular trips to Kansas City to watch the Cyclones play in the Big 8 and Big 12 basketball tournaments, witnessing and celebrating four championship victories.

Dave was also a member of the Madrid Pacers car club. He enjoyed attending car shows across the Midwest with his brother Mark and brother-in-law Don Lincoln.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, November 25, at St. Malachy's Hansen Hall (405 Gerald St., Madrid, Iowa) from 1-4 p.m. Friends and family are encouraged to wear cardinal and gold and bring their classic muscle cars, weather permitting. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
