Dean Thomas Obituary

Dean Dorence Thomas ,79, passed away September 5th at Iowa Methodist Medical Center surrounded by close family. Services will be held at Iles Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines, Iowa, 50317 on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 with a visitation at 10:00am, Funeral Service at 11:00am. Burial will follow at 1:30pm in Slater, Iowa where he’ll be laid to rest with his late father and mother.

He was born February 23, 1945 in Des Moines, to Dorence and Donna (Clement) Thomas. He was a graduate of Des Moines Technical High School. After graduating he married Pamela (Lowman) Thomas on May 30, 1965, in Milford Iowa. He went on to own and operate a diesel mechanic business (Midwest Fleet Service) for 35 years. He spent his retirement with his wife on a small farm outside of Pleasantville, Iowa where he continued his passion for working on vehicles and equipment through projects on the farm. When he wasn’t busy working on his own projects, he spent his time helping others and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was always known for sharing his passions and lifelong knowledge and experiences through stories. Those who knew Dean saw the passion he had for hard work and helping others but most importantly the caring and kind heart he had for those close to him.

Dean is survived by his wife, Pamela (Lowman) Thomas; brother, Mark Thomas of Saint Roberts, MO; children, Micheal Thomas of Webster City, IA married to the late Kara (Lewis) Thomas, and Jennifer (Curt) Wolff of Pleasantville; Grandchildren, Kayne Thomas of Pella, IA, Kaylie (Noah) Graham of Waukee, IA, Samuel Wolff, Andrew Wolff, Marcus Wolff, Summer Wolff, all of Pleasantville, IA. Dean is preceded in death by his parents Dorence and Donna Thomas.
