Diane Hayette Marshall Schupp passed away peacefully in her home on February 7, 2019. Diane was born December 5, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Myrna and Clare Marshall. She attended Walnut Hill Boarding School in Natick, Massachusetts, Coe College in Cedar Rapids, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's in Economics. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority at the University of Iowa. She met Joseph G. Schupp Jr of Burlington, IA while attending the University of Iowa and they were wed on March 24, 1951. They lived in Chicago for Joe’s residency and then moved to Tacoma, WA for Joe’s military service in the Air Force. They settled in Des Moines in 1954 where they raised their 7 children. Diane was active in the Des Moines community and was member of PEO (chapter HM), the Mercy Hospital Guild and Junior League. She was an avid supporter of the arts in Des Moines as well as the Public Library. She and Joe were dedicated to supporting Catholic education and were generous supporters of St Augustin’s and Dowling Catholic High School. She was a gracious loving lady, the ultimate caregiver, who will be missed dearly by many people whose lives she has touched.

Diane was the quiet force of her rambunctious family. She lived a life filled with grace, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Despite her gentle, quiet demeanor she had a competitive spirit and enjoyed tennis, golf, table tennis, bridge, cribbage and learned to snow ski at age 50. She was a well adorned champion of Fair Hills Resort tournaments, a place she loved to vacation with her family in the summer. As the daughter of the former Editor of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, proper command of the English language was of paramount importance and Readers Digest Word Power quizzes were commonplace at the Schupp family dinner table. She had a delightful sense of humor and was a wonderful friend to so many. She helped create a magical childhood neighborhood filled with adventure and joy, and enjoyed the “Ladies of the Lake”. In retirement she and Joe loved to spend time at their summer lake home in Minnesota.

Diane is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, parents Clare and Myrna, her brother Thomas and his wife Connie, her sister-in-law Lynn Marshall, her sister-in-law Barbara Jean and her husband Thomas Lind, her brother-in-law Vernon Brinck, her sister-in-law Rene Mercer, and her granddaughter Teresa Schupp. She is survived by her seven children: Joseph (Maryann) Schupp of Des Moines, IA, Julie (Kevin) Carpenter of St Cloud, MN, Jon (Kelly) Schupp of Park Rapids, MN, Timothy (Julie McManus) Schupp of Minneapolis, MN, Daniel (Beth) Schupp of Detroit Lakes, MN, Lisa (Corky) Hubbell of Des Moines, IA, and Mary (Miguel Latronica) Farhi of Riverwoods, IL; her brother Hal Marshall of Phoenix, AZ; her sister-in-law Marianna Brinck of Burlington, IA; her brother-in-law Charles Mercer of Auburn, CA; 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren (who affectionately called her Madon) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was beloved by all she encountered in life and was a lady in every sense of the word. Rest in peace dear Diane/Mom/Madon.
