Don E. Wheatley, 67, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Taylor House Hospice from complications of diabetes. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Tuesday, July 28 at Iles Funeral Homes – Grandview Park Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA.

Don was born June 4, 1942 in Anita, Iowa, the son of Mary Jane Dorsey and Paul Wheatley. Don lived in Des Moines most of his life. He faithfully served his country in the US Army from 1961 – 1963 and was stationed in Germany. Don worked for over 30 years for Western International and retired from Des Moines General Hospital in 1998 where he worked in maintenance. On September 26, 1986 he was united in marriage to Alice Joyce Brannen in Des Moines. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and a great mechanic. He loved NASCAR Racing and anything with a motor.

Don is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Alice; sons, Steve (Sheri) Wheatley and Scott Wheatley all of Des Moines; his mother, Mary Jane (William) Wengert of Berwick, IA; step sons, David (Debbie) Collins and Craig (Laura) Collins of Des Moines and Brian Fuqua of Portland, OR; step daughters, Jackie Fees of Manitou, CO and Nancy (Dennis) Alexander of Reno, NV; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; six step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ed (Julie) Wheatley of Plattsmouth, NE; half brother, David (Phyllis) Wengert of Atlantic, IA and half sister, Linda (Bill) Heathcoat of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul and a cousin Lyle Dorsey.
