Obituary

Donald "Don" Driscoll, 74, passed from life on Monday, February 23, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, followed by a Masonic Service at 10:45 a.m. and a Celebration of Don's life at 11 a.m. all at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Committal services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.

Don was born on November 20, 1940 in Fayette, Missouri to Glenn and Flossie "Flo" Doyle. At age 10, he was adopted by Verne Driscoll and raised in the San Diego area. After graduating from high school, Don entered the military service. He spent six years in navy aviation and then went into submarine service for the rest of his 20 year career.

On June 16, 1973, Don married Anne Anderson while serving at the Fort Des Moines Marine and Navy Center. He was the first enlisted man to work on his associates of arts degree at Chapman University in San Diego while serving in Hawaii. His final assignment was the respected position of Chief of the Boat. Following retirement from the Navy, he continued his education at Drake University in Des Moines, receiving a B.A. in Accounting.

In 1983, Don joined Waveland Park Masonic Lodge 654 and later became Master of the Lodge. Don joined the Scottish Rite Masons. He was selected to join the line of officers in 1984 and was Master of Kadosh in 2010. He also became an honorary 33rd degree member. Don retired from work in 2012.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, an Elder and an usher for many years, and served on many committees. He enjoyed all sports, especially his passion for golf. Don continued to be very active in his Masonic work. In July 2014, during his second year of retirement, Don was diagnosed with ALS. He and Anne moved into Scottish Rite Park just prior to Don's passing. He will forever be missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Anne Driscoll of Des Moines; and one sister, Katherine "Kay" Young of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death recently by one sister, Linda Coleman.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sara Espeland and the staff and volunteers of the VA for all their support and compassion in giving Don excellent care during his illness.

Memorial contributions can be made in Donald Driscoll's name to either Westminster Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund or the Iowa Scottish Rite Masonic Foundation Scholar Fund.
