Obituary

Donald "Dutch" Brown, 79, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Iowa Veterans Home. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday, June 28 at Dunn's Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service with a later burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

"Dutch" Brown was born in Afton, lived most of his life in Des Moines and moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown 15 years ago. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was owner of Foodland Market at 14th and Woodland and Dutch and Dales Market at 800 19th Street.

He is survived by his twin sister, Lorraine Lear of Norwalk; sisters, Helen Hale of Huntington Beach, CA, and Dolores (Roy) Peterson of Tucson, AZ; brothers, Dan (Sue) Brown of Fort Mohave, AZ, and Rich (Twyla) Brown of St. James, MO; sister-in-law, Melba Brown of Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Smokey and Leigh Edward Brown and brothers-in-law, John Lear and Dean Hale.

Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family and will be given to the Dack 3 Unit at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown where he lived.
