Obituary

Donald E. “Don” Butler, 71, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 of pneumonia at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born on November 2, 1936, to Homer and Marjorie Butler.

Don graduated from North High and served in the Army National Guard as 1st Sergeant of the 186th Infantry for 15 years. He began his career at Gibbs-Cook Equipment Co., now known as Ziegler Caterpillar starting in the tool room, becoming Sales Manager of Engines and Generators. He was Vice-President of Midwestern Power Products. After 47 ½ years, Don retired to do the things he loved best, playing golf with his wife and friends, working with wood and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anne of Ankeny; son, Brad of Davenport, IA; daughter, Michelle (Doug) Jacobs and two grandchildren, Makenzie and Nathan all of Urbandale; two brothers, Robert Butler Sr. of Des Moines and Richard DeArmond of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, November 19, at First United Methodist Church of Ankeny, located at 206 S.W. Walnut Street in Ankeny. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
