Obituary

Donald Francis Geier went to heaven clean shaven. He didn't want to die looking like a pirate, because "beards are ridiculous"

Don was born October 14th 1933 to Frank and Margaret Geier in Kansas City, Kansas. He later relocated with his parents to Lombard, Illinois, before settling in Windsor Heights, Iowa to be near his sister in 1999.

Don was a proud Korean War Veteran, and a retired mail carrier.

He was an award-winning photographer, and prolific artist, covering the walls of his home with historical murals. His murals were featured in several local magazines, as well as a segment on KCCI in 2018.

He was an avid antique collector, and loved to travel to find his next score. He was also a long time fan of the movies, with an extensive DVD collection.

His favorite past time in later years, was shocking the young people at holiday dinners with some of his most colorful opinions. You could see the twinkle in his eye and the grin on his face while mouths dropped, and silverware clattered, and gasps could be heard as he stirred the pot.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; Sister, Shirley Mahany and her husband Bob. Left to honor his memory are his Nephew, Patrick (Sarah) Mahany; Great Nieces: Stephanie (Erik) Cooper, Kaitlyn Mahany; Great Nephew Kyle Mahany; and Great Great Nephew, Jack Cooper, all of Des Moines.

A celebration of Don’s art will be planned at a later date.
