Obituary

Donald J. "JD" Reilly, Jr., 50, died Monday, October 20, 2003 at University Hospitals in Iowa City of liver failure after living with cancer for nearly ten years. The body has been cremated and a memorial service and celebration of JD's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 24 at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.

He was born in Louisville, KY, on December 27, 1952 and graduated from Grand Haven (MI) High School and Michigan State University. JD then began a life-long career in music, first as a performer for over 20 years in various rock bands in the San Francisco area including the JD Boorman Band, and ultimately as a composer. He was in-house "maestro" for Radio Garage Too in Clive. He composed music for national, state and local commercials, movies and television shows, including two children's animated series, "Phantom Investigators" on the WB and "Life with Loopy" on Nickleodeon.

JD is survived by his wife, Kathy Collins Reilly of Des Moines; his mother, Jackie Reilly; brothers, Patrick and James, all of Grand Haven, MI; sisters, Peg Reilly of Grand Rapids and Katy Delashmit of Flint; a stepdaughter, Quinn Krieg of Los Alamos, NM; a stepson, Ben Krieg of Calistoga, CA; and nieces, nephews and a host of friends who loved and will miss him. JD was preceded in death by his father, Donald J. Reilly.

In addition to being an accomplished musician, JD was an enthusiastic "Natural" golfer. He loved sports and followed the S.F. Giants, his beloved 49ers and the Iowa Hawkeyes, whom he adopted upon moving from San Francisco to Des Moines to marry Kathy in 1999.

Memorial contributions may be made in JD's name and sent to the University of Iowa Foundation, directed to the School of Music Opportunity Fund or the Men's or Women's Golf Development Fund.
