Obituary

Donald Morris Chartier, 90, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Iles Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center, Iowa with a rosary service to follow. A memorial mass will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 5, 2024, at St. John's Catholic Church in Adel, Iowa. Burial will be held 11 AM Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa.

Donald was born September 7, 1933, in Dallas Center, IA, to William and Esther (Good) Chartier. He served in the Army Special Services, attended Ranger Training, and he played football while he was in the service. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science and Agriculture Business with a minor in chemistry and animal nutrition in 1958.

Donald married Patricia O'Donnell in 1955, and they were married for 38 years, before her passing in 1992. Together, they had two children, Mary and John. Donald married Janet D. Larson on July 9, 1994, and they made their home in Dallas Center, Iowa. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; Brother, Gene Chartier of Leawood, Kansas; Three step-children Deborah (Mark) Muse of Clive, Iowa, Dana (Tom) Ray of Ozark, Missouri, and Eric (Christine) Larson of Des Moines, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia (O'Donnell) Chartier; parents; two children, Mary and John Chartier; siblings, Dean, Madelyn, Glenace, Ray, and Dennis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Catholic Church in Adel, Iowa or St. Croix Hospice in West Des Moines, Iowa. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
