Donald O. Remme, 87, formerly of Webster City, Iowa, passed from this life on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., on Friday, January 9, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 10 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow services on Saturday. A private committal service will take place at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.

Don was born on July 13, 1927 in Clear Lake, SD, one of the five children of Gust and Martha (Bendt) Remme. He graduated from high school in Luverne, MN before serving his country as part of the Shore Patrol for the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Donald was united in marriage to Hazel "LaVonne" Hanson on April 20, 1947 in Luverne. From 1947 until 1966 Don worked in construction in Luverne. He then moved with his family to Webster City where he worked for W. R. Grace and Company for over 30 years. Don was a member of Webster City's Trinity Lutheran Church. He proudly supported American Legion Post No. 191 and enjoyed honoring veterans as part of their military funeral honors team. In his leisure, Don enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and was a skilled deer hunter.

Don was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, LaVonne in 2013. He was also preceded by his parents, son-in-law, Harry Taylor; infant brother, Leon Dwight Remme; sister, Marlene Marie Schwartz and brother, Gale K. Remme. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Douglas A. Remme of Spring Grove, MN; three daughters, LaDonna K. Taylor of Des Moines, Marcia A. (Joseph) Meola of Altoona and Lois M. (Roger) Norris of Custer, SD; brother, Wayne P. (Verna) Remme of Amour, SD; sister, Yvonne L.
