Donnie Roach Obituary

Donald (Donnie) Gene Roach “THE PUP”, age 79, of Norwalk died Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by his family at UnityPoint Hospital in Des Moines.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 12th with a Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, February 13th at 11 a.m., at Iles Funeral Home in Norwalk. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Orilla, IA.

Donald Gene, the son of Harlan and Irma (Barr) Roach, was born on July 23rd, 1945, in Winterset, Iowa. Donnie was raised on the family farm in Cumming, Iowa. Donnie graduated high school from Martensdale St. Mary’s with the Class of 1963 and worked as a machinist most of his life owning his own shop for many of those years. Donnie also proudly served on the Norwalk Fire Department for 26 years.

Donnie met his wife to be in November 1965 through a mutual friend after a basketball game in Norwalk. They were united in marriage on September 1, 1968, in Montrose, Iowa, and to their union had two sons, Curtis and Kevin.

Donnie spent his time going to the races, taking Kevin in his van and enjoyed spending time with their group of friends “The Birthday Club” going out for dinner throughout the years. Mostly you would find Donnie reading a book, drinking a Diet Dew, watching Madi play softball and sporting an awesome handlebar moustache. Donnie enjoyed spending time with his children and grandkids. He will be remembered fondly as a loving father and grandfather.

Donnie is proceeded in death by his parents Harlan and Irma, sister Judy, wife Suzette and son Kevin.

He is survived by his son, Curt (Missy) of Prole and their three children, Bailey, Garret (Shelby), and Madison, two siblings, a sister Linda (Fred) Reese of Bronson, IA and brother Dave (Dee) Roach of Cumming; a brother-in-law Frank (Debbie) Curtis of Norwalk; a sister-in-law, Jeonia Curtis of Des Moines, IA; a sister-in-law Kristi (John) Stockton of Leawood, KS; and many beloved cousins and host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Curt Roach and family as they have several memorials in mind.
