Obituary

Dora May Rosborough Harvey, was born on May 12, 1916 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Her mother, Cora Ware Rosborough, was hemorrhaging after her birth and a nurse carrying a container of blood that may have saved her mother's life, tripped and broke the container. Her mother died at her birth. May's oldest sister was Hazel Rosborough – Curry and her three brothers were, Roy, Earl and Homer Rosborough, all whom have preceded her in death. May's father, John Rosborough, died of a horse and buggy accident when May was 2 years old and she was adopted by her mother's sister and her husband, Jim and Dora Beck. They lived on Dean Avenue, very near the Iowa State Fairgrounds. May graduated from East High School and worked at the Rollins Hosiery Mill on Dean Avenue. She always held many office jobs and also worked for L.J. Peters for many years. On June 26, 1943 she was united in marriage to Gerald Harvey, and bore no children. Gerald died in 1987.

May took organ lessons from Critchett's until she was 90 years old and took her friends with her. She often traded her organs to the company and purchased new ones. Aunt May's last organ in is Donna Curry's living room.

May died on October 1, 2011 at Valley View Village, where she lived for 19 years. May met many of her friends at Valley View, including, Estee Brandt, Dorothea Person, Mary Warren-Ligget, Ruth Short and Anna Bell Carter. May has always been a very sweet aunt to many nieces and nephews. She always smiles and finds something likeable about everyone. She was certainly loved by her family and friends.
