Obituary

Doris Mackaman Corrie, 93, died of heart failure, Saturday, July 12, 2008 in Des Moines, Iowa, where she had lived all her life. Her body was cremated and memorial services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008.

Doris was born December 16, 1914 in Des Moines, graduated from Roosevelt High School and Drake University. She married Royal Corrie on February 26, 1938. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Phi Beta Kappa, Chapter V of P.E.O., Friday Club, Grace United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Discovery Class. She taught 8th grade English and History at Warren Harding Junior High School, 1957-1973. She served on the Scholarship Board of the Des Moines Drake Alumnae Association for many years. She enjoyed family, friends, ideas, books, bridge and bird watching.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Royal Corrie, brothers, Don, Wayne, Frank and Richard Mackaman, and a granddaughter, Rachel Corrie. She is survived by brother, John Mackaman of Des Moines; children, Dr. Stephen Corrie (Joan) of Midlothian, VA, Cathleen Pierce (Richard) of Durand, WI and Craig Corrie (Cindy) of Olympia, WA; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Corrie (Hazem Ziada), Cathleen Findlay (Jonathan), Charleen Hauptly – Pierce (Mike), Richard Pierce (Karen), Christopher Corrie (Jasleen) and Sarah Simpson (Kelly); and three great grandchildren, Ravi and Maya Corrie and Fiona Findlay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frank and Eva Mackaman Drake University Scholarship or Grace United Methodist Church.
