Dorothea M Emery passed away at her residence on September 29th.

Dorothea was born on August 4, 1909 in Long Lake, IL to Ralph and Grace Twitchell. Her parents moved to Des Moines when she was a young girl. She was a member of the first graduating class of Roosevelt High School and thereafter attended the University of Iowa.

On July 19, 1937 Dorothea married C. Kent Emery, to whom she was married for 58 years until his death in 1995. She is survived by two children, her daughter Linda M Miller (Clark) of Des Moines and her son Kent Emery, Jr. (Lucy) of South Bend, IN. She is survived by 7 grandchildren: Jocelyn Miller of Knoxville, TN; Dr. Lanier Summerall (Thomas) of Norwich, VT; Ursula Emery McClure (Michael) of Lafayette, LA; Cecilia Loftus (Brian) of Philadelphia, PA; Giles Kent Emery (Alison) of Indianapolis, IN; Dorothea Duenow (Zachary) of Highland Park, IL; Cyril Robert Emery (Chelsea Wald) of New York City. She is survived by 5
great-grandchildren: Rory Patrick and Tristan Michael Loftus; Ada Annadora McClure; Bazil Luke and Emery McIntosh Duenow.

Dorothea was an active volunteer and civic leader in Des Moines. She served as President of the Greenwood School PTA, as an officer on the Board of Directors of St. Monica's School for Girls, and as treasurer of PEO, Chapter LL. She was a member of the Serotoma Club, the Des Moines Women's Club, the Embassy Club, the Des Moines Club, the Wakonda Club, and she was a long-time parishoner of the Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Paul.

Dorothea loved to cook. At the many parties and luncheons that she hosted, she graced her friends and guests with her wonderful cuisine. Like her mother before her (who was a Lifetime Master), she was an avid bridge player, belonging to several bridge clubs. She saw the beauty of God's blessings in everything and everyone around her.

The family will receive friends at Dunn's Funeral Home on Monday, October 12th, between 5-7 pm. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, October 13th, at 10 am at the Cathedral of St. Paul. Memorials may be sent to the Cathedral of St. Paul, 815 High St., Des Moines, IA 50309.
