Obituary

Dorothy L. Larson, 78, died Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Trinity Center at Luther Park after many years of being afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.

Graveside services committing Dorothy's and her husband James's remains will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 27 at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln, NE.

Dorothy was born in Lincoln on January 16, 1929. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and married her husband, James Larson, of Newman Grove, NE on April 16, 1948. They moved to Des Moines in 1955 where she spent many years making a home for her family. Later she worked in Stockholder Services for Midwest Resources.

Dorothy was an active member and former deacon at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. She supported peace through the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. She delighted in nature. Dorothy loved flowers and birds, and joyfully turned her back yard into a garden full of roses and dozens of other species of flowers and trees, dotting it with bird feeders, bird houses, and a bird bath for attracting the birds she loved to watch and whose songs she loved to hear. She loved traveling with her husband, sister Annie, and brother-in-law Bob. During their travels she shopped for collectibles. Dorothy was also an avid reader. She will be remembered for her generous, vivacious, fun-loving spirit, and was a loving and attentive mother and grandmother.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Jeffrey J. Larson of Des Moines; daughter, Kristen (Ken) Tharp of West Des Moines; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Andrew Tharp both of West Des Moines; and sister, Annie (Bob) Settell of Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2006; grandson, Christopher Tharp; parents and eleven siblings.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or Trinity Center at Luther Park.
