Dr. Joseph Stork died on Christmas morning of respiratory failure. Joseph was born on November 17, 1923, in Bancroft, Iowa to Anton and Anna (Julich) Stork. He was a farmer and raised champion hogs before attending school at Loras College, the University of Iowa, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery (COMS) in Des Moines. Dr. Stork worked at Des Moines General, taught classes at COMS, and was a supervising physician with Des Moines General outreach practices in Polk and Dallas counties. He also had a practice in Waukee for a number of years. It was after the birth of his six children, and with the support of his wife, that he attended COMS and earned his medical license. He loved both the farming and medical professions.

Joseph married Blanche Charlson in Iowa City on February 7, 1953. They made their homes in Des Moines, Van Meter, and for the past 45 years in Waukee. He was a powerful man both physically and mentally with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include children: Kathryn (Hal) Penick of Iowa City; Margaret Stork of Waukee; Deborah Stork of Madison, Wisconsin; Joseph Stork of Waukee; James (Theresa) Stork of Des Moines; and Nancy (Tim) Horsch of Waukee; eleven grandchildren: Christian and Michael Penick; Steven and Laura Chapiewsky; Noah and Anna Stork; Alexandra and Anton (A.J.) Stork; and Mark, Sam and Hannah Horsch. He is also survived by one brother, Frank (Margaret) Stork of Bancroft, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. Dr. Stork was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years and his brothers, Florian, Julius, Tony and Bill and sisters, Millie, Alma and Mary Ann.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, with a vigil service held at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, December 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface. Burial will follow at Waukee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church or the Waukee Public Library.
