E. Goettsch Obituary

Charlene Goettsch, age 100, of Des Moines Iowa died Friday, September 1st, 2023 at Scottish Rite Nursing Home.

A memorial service followed by reception will be held at Scottish Rite Park from 1:00-3:00 PM on 09/16/2023.

Charlene was born and raised in Barnes City, Iowa . She was the daughter of Bonne and Ruby Gott (Speas) . Charlene graduated from Barnes City High School and Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. She met and married Robert J. Goettsch in 1946 . They were happily married for 37 years until Bob’s death in 1983.

Charlene worked in Sears personnel department for 21 years. She shared her talents and became a volunteer at church, Plymouth Congregational UCC and in the community. At Plymouth she found artistic expression in music, her first love. She was a church choir member for 30 years , a deacon for 33 years and served in many other capacities. She was a classroom aide at Orchard Place and was a guide and historical interpreter at Terrace Hill. She was a member of PEO, Adeline, Stewardis and several other clubs.

Surviving are 3 children, Son Steven and Jayne of Seattle WA, Daughter Patricia and Don of Larchwood IA, Daughter Jill of West Des Moines, 3 grandchildren - Rick (Beverly), Cory (Ashley), Robert and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Bonita and Vera, and brother Garth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Plymouth Congregational Church Fine Arts Program and Scottish Rite's Good Life Program.
