Obituary

Earnest Robert "Bob" DeGan passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 11 in Our Lady of Peace Chapel at Bishop Drumm with visitation an hour before the service.

Bob was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on October 22, 1922. At a young age his family moved to Des Moines. He graduated from North High School in 1941. Enlisting in the Army in 1942, he transferred to the Army Air Corp, serving in the 487th Bombardment Group, flying 33 missions over Germany as a waist machine gunner on a B-17 bomber. After his service in the Army Air Corp, he worked as a linotype operator at Wallace Homestead Printing Co. He went on to be a printing salesman until his retirement. In 1945, he married Theresa Maxine Johnson and they lived in the Beaverdale area, until moving to Bishop Drumm Assisted Living.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; parents, Ernie and Edna DeGan; his brother Joe and sister Ruth Rice. Bob is survived by his two children, Jerry (Jan) DeGan and Sharon (Duane) Lewis; eight grandchildren and ten great­ grandchildren.
