Edna LaBerta "Bert" Dickinson, 97, died peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Wesley Acres.

Bert is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edna Hartzell; her beloved husband, Charlie (Charles A. Dickinson); her sister, Elsie M. Rau; her son-in-law, Robert Ives; and her great grandson, Aidan Brehm.

She is survived by her brother, The Rev. Raymond (Mary) Hartzell of Rockville, MD; her 2 daughters, Ann Ives of Milford, CT and Jean Hartig of West Des Moines, IA; her grandsons: John C. (Janna) Brehm of West Des Moines, IA and Robert D. (Amber) Brehm of Indianapolis, IN; and her great-grandchildren: Joseph Brehm of West Des Moines, IA, Nadia, Malia and Kiera Brehm of Indianapolis, IN.

Bert was a devoted wife, mother and Nanna and a great homemaker- a superb cook and hostess, seamstress and milliner.

She taught her Sunday school class of 2 year olds to sing "This little light of mine; I'm gonna let it shine."

Bert was a "light" for all who knew her, as well as for complete strangers. She lives now in the light of Jesus, her Lord and Savior.

With their whole hearts, Bert's family thanks Wesley Acres' Austin Center Nurses, Aides, staff and Wickie Dawe for the devoted loving care they gave to Bert.

A family committal service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Acres Good Samaritan Fund, 3520 Grand Avenue
Des Moines, IA US 50312.
