Edna Viola Lewis, 95, passed from this life on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. There will be visitation with the family present. Private funeral services for her family will be held on Monday at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid. Private interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Madrid.

Edna was born on October 2, 1910 in Madrid, Iowa to George and Mary Larson Hamman. She was a 1928 graduate of Madrid High School. On June 21, 1935, Edna married James Lewis in Bethany, MO. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Judy and Jim. Edna had been a lifelong resident of Madrid. In her earlier years, she was employed with the former Western Printing Co. in Madrid. Edna was also formerly employed with the National Biscuit Co. in Des Moines (now known as Nabisco); and later worked in the Ordinance Plant during WWII. Edna was a loving, caring and devoted mother and grandmother; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter and son, Judy Pagel and her husband Bob and Jim Lewis and his wife Pam all of Madrid; seven grandchildren, Bobby, Eric, Nichole, Michael, Michelle, David and Lisa; and six great-grandchildren, Cody, Cassidy, Callie, Caeden, Samantha and Nicole. Edna was preceded into eternal life by her parents; her husband, James on August 25, 1994; and her two sisters.
