Edward Atherton Moe, 87, and longtime resident of Des Moines entered eternal life Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Fleur Heights Care Center near his former home. He was born at the Osage, Iowa Hospital in Mitchell County October 25, 1923 to Walter A. and Matta Margaret (Sinn) Moe of St. Ansgar, IA. Edward graduated from St. Ansgar High School in the class of 1941. He then attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City, Iowa until he was called to service.

Edward served four years in the U.S. Army during World II, in the 78th Infantry Division in England, Belgium, France and Germany. Having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was honorably discharged March 2, 1946. Upon his return to the United States he completed his Associate Degree in accounting at the American Institute of Business in the spring of 1947. His career was that of accountant for a number of small businesses in Chicago(IL), Iowa Falls(IA) and Des Moines(IA).

Edward was married to Beverly Sue McCowen June 12, 1955 and to this union were born two children; Jon Atherton and Leisyl Ann Moe (now Mrs. Jeff Holladay) all currently of Des Moines. Preceding him in passing was his mother, Matta Margaret (Sinn) Moe (August 29th, 1955) and his father, Walter Atherton Moe who passed away Christmas Eve 1968. Surviving is his wife, Beverly and two children, Jon Atherton and Leisyl Ann (Holladay); his brother, Marvin of Austin, MN; one niece, Cynthia Frank of Dexter, MN, and three nephews, Dennis and Alan Moe of Minneapolis and Dale Moe of Northwood, IA.

Edward was a member of Wakonda Christian Church for 12 years, where he served as both treasurer and deacon. The family moved to Iowa Falls, IA, where they were members of the United Church of Christ from 1978 - 1990. Edward and Beverly then returned to Des Moines and re-established membership at the Wakonda Christian Church and became Hall Directors at American Institute of Business (his Alma Mater). They enjoyed 18 years serving in that position until their retirement July 2008.

The church will hold a memorial service for Mr. Moe, Saturday, January 8, 2010 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials for either Wakonda Christian Church - 3938 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321 or for the American Institute of Business scholarships fund - 2500 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321.

A military interment service will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Van Meter, IA.
