Edward L. Langwith, 92, died at Prime Towers Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at Iles Funeral Home - Westover Chapel with visitation one hour before the service. The service will be conducted by Reverend Martie Larsen. A military burial will be held 1 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2007 at Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa.

Edward was born to Marguerite and Edward Langwith on July 26, 1915 in Glenmary, Tennessee. The family moved to Davenport, Iowa when Edward was five years old. On January 16, 1942 Edward married Madaline Grimes at the First Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa where he continued his membership to the present. In 1942, he was drafted by the United States Army into the Big Red One Division where he served in WWII and the Korean War. He retired from the military as Master Sergeant E8 after 23 years of service. After returning to Des Moines, he worked as a revenue agent for the Iowa Department of Revenue for 24 years. Edward was a lifetime member of the Des Moines Elks Lodge #98.

Edward is survived by Madaline, his wife of 65 years, his brother-in-law John A. Grimes and wife Mary of Fresno, California, sister-in- law Rovene Langwith of Johnston, Iowa, four nephews: John E. Langwith of Wilmington, North Carolina, Dr. Dennis K. Langwith of Des Moines, Gary L. Langwith of Ankeny, and Warren W. Langwith of Pleasant Valley and many great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Earl Cawley and his identical twin brother John L. Langwith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Des Moines, Mercy Medical Center Hospice of Des Moines or the American Lung Association of Iowa, 5601 Douglas, Des Moines, Iowa 50310 .
