Elmer Robert Neussendorfer went for a walk on a beautiful Saturday, September 7, 2019, and walked into Heaven. He was born May 16, 1949 to Edgar L. & Ann (Pflueger) Neussendorfer at St. Cloud City, Minnesota.

Elmer married Gloria Jean Bloomquist on April 24, 1983 at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska, where they met. Gloria survives him as well as his siblings, Vivian (Gordon) Watterud, Jan (Bob) Theis, Elaine ‘Liz’ Posterick, Ron (Colleen) Neussendorfer, Edgar (Jane) Neussendorfer, Joy (Steve) Weber, Larry (Shirley) Mayer, and Becky (Bruce) Mayer, many nieces and nephews.

Elmer was a precious treasure to all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his quick and wonderful smile and his cheerful attitude of always being ready and willing to help family and friends with any and all tasks. In fact, he should be our example of Christ’s love at helping and loving one another. Elmer loved the Lord with all his heart and that is our sole comfort in these awful days of living without him, he is with our Lord.

Of course, he served his country during the Viet Nam War doing TWO tours. In 1992 he retired from the U.S. Air Force as Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. Just this year Elmer boarded an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., with his comrades in arms.

Having an incredible loving, servant heart he was involved in many things as long as it was Christ centered and focused on serving others. The Lord put a burden on his and Gloria’s hearts to serve children, as their main focus for over 25 years was bringing the love of Christ to young children through the AWANA programs. The last six years he served in the AWANA program in South Korea, planning on spending TWO months there in 2020 versus his usual 6 weeks. We’ll never know how many lives were brought into the Kingdom because of Elmer and Gloria’s serving hearts.

Elmer was a 31 Gallon Blood Donor, and an AARP Tax Aid Foundation volunteer for many years.

As a member of the New Hope Assembly of God Church in Urbandale, he served his church family in many capacities. One of his favorites was as volunteer for the New Hope Kids. He enjoyed cooking and used that skill at church events, fund raisers, and feeding the homeless, as well as, state dinners at the Governor’s Mansion at Terrace Hill. His family looked forward to his breakfasts served up especially for them.

Elmer was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Nebraska Husker Football FAN! Go Big Red! He had a collection of over 300 Nativities, many as travel souvenirs.

To honor this precious man, Gloria has asked for memorials in his name go to AWANA Ministries. You can make checks payable as mentioned and give them to Gloria for forwarding to AWANA headquarters. Being a genuine servant to the end, Elmer was an organ donor. What a fitting way for this beautiful, humble man to finish his earthly life.

A Celebration of Life will be 10am, Saturday, September 14, 2019, at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 4425 70th Street, Urbandale, Iowa 50322. The Offutt Airforce Base Military Honor Guard will render honors in the church parking lot following services.

This void in our lives will never be filled. Go in peace our beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. We will love you forever and look forward to once again seeing that beautiful smile in Heaven.
