Elzada Catherine Snider, 97, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa.

Elzada was born Christmas Day, 1910, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Benjamin and Nancy Palmer. The family moved to Zookspur near Madrid and she graduated from Madrid High School in 1927. Elzada taught at Snider School north of Granger for one year. She married John Gerald Snider at Easton Place Church in Des Moines on October 9, 1930. Elzada graduated from Drake University in Des Moines and was a life-long Bulldog fan. She returned to teaching and retired in 1979 after 33 years in the Woodward-Granger School District. Elzada also worked at Rollin Hosiery Mill and Younkers Department Store.

Elzada was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Granger where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of the UMW. Elzada raised German Shepherds and collected Hummels. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting and playing cards, especially Bridge with the senior groups in Woodward and Granger. She loved cooking for her family and anyone else who stopped by. Elzada loved playing bingo at the nursing home.

Elzada is survived by her children, Delores "Dode" (Chuck) Fuson and John "Larry" (Shirley "Jean") Snider; ten grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and twenty nice great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, one granddaughter and two great granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Granger. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the family and will be distributed to her church, school and other community charities.
