Obituary

Ethel Mae Cleaver Webbles, 91, died Friday, May 2, 2008 at her home in Scottish Rite Park. Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Scottish Rite Park Penthouse. Private entombment of her urn will be at Masonic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Ethel was born in Des Moines on August 22, 1916 to Frederick and Mae Cleaver. She lived her entire life at the family house on 45th Street before retiring to Scottish Rite Park. She was graduated from Roosevelt High School and Drake University where she met and married the love of her life, Emil Griffith "Griff" Webbles. She worked as a clerk for the Equitable of Iowa Insurance Company until 1946. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, P.E.O. Chapter EH and the Delta Gamma Sorority.

Ethel will be remembered for her twinkling eyes and infectious giggles, her astute and wry observations, her sunny disposition and her steadfast courage in the face of many challenges. She had an uncanny ability to treat people individually and make them feel unique and special.

She is survived by her cousins, Mary Eichhorn and Ruth Ann Fox and their families; brother-in-law, John (Yvonne) Webbles; her sister-in-law, Janine Webbles and her children, Carla and Marc Webbles; nieces, Lellen Lane, Becky Fowlkes and Lucy Griffith and their families; "adopted son" Brad Hollingsworth and his family; devoted caretakers, Bonnie Martin and Connie Boon as well as many other extended family members and lifetime friends.

Memorial contributions are being directed to Scottish Rite Park Brotherhood or Plymouth Congregational Church.
