Evelyn Arlene (Sellegren) Michels, 90, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020, at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, IA. Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 10, 2020, at Westover Funeral Home. A private burial will take place in the future.

Evelyn was born January 12, 1929, in Girard, KS, on the family farm to Otto and Ethel (Wasem) Martens. She married Wayne Sellegren on May 13, 1948. Wayne passed away February, 21, 1997. Evelyn then married John Michels in February of 2002.

Upon graduating high school, Evelyn worked for the Girard, KS, County Clerk. Upon getting married, she resided in several places, wherever Wayne’s career took them. Evelyn raised her family while keeping an immaculate home. She was a great baker and was known for her holiday baking. Evelyn loved to host friends and family in her home. When she moved to Iowa, she started her own business making alterations and sewing for her community and was well known for her skill. Evelyn was very active in her church, singing in the choir and for weddings in her youth. She was also a member of Do Re Mums and Church Circle.

Evelyn is survived by her husband John Michels; son, Dennis L (Becky) Sellegren of Girard, KS; daughters, Janice (Tim) McAfee of Frisco, TX, and Marcia (Kevin) Gearhart of Johnston, IA; grandchildren, Ryan Sellegren, Evan (Anna) Sellegren, Ethan Sellegren, Aaron Sellegren, Sean McAfee, Seamus McAfee, Matt Gearhart, Chris Gearhart, and Nick Gearhart; and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne A. Sellegren; daughter, Barbara Marie Sellegren; brother, Charles Martens; and grandchild, Shannon Caitlin McAfee.
