Obituary

Florence Anna Hacke Moran, 94, passed away February 3, 2025, in West Des Moines. She was born May 30, 1930, to John Hacke and Irene Kaufman Hacke of Dubuque. She attended school in Jones County and Dubuque, Iowa. Her father started farming in the 1930’s in Jones County. She was an invaluable aid to her father during World War II helping in all phases of the farm operation because of the critical labor shortage caused by the military.

Florence married Paul H. Moran on July 8, 1954, in St. Martin’s Church in Cascade, Iowa. She moved and lived with her husband in Houston, Texas and in Cascade, Webster City, Newton and Des Moines, Iowa. She had two sons, Paul John and Michael Clifford and one daughter, Krista Ann. Her husband Paul preceded her in death on July 31, 2019.

When the children were grown, she worked for the Iowa Employment Security Commission in the Tax Department. She started as a file clerk, clerk II and finally in Tax Collections as a Revenue Agent, retiring from the State of Iowa in 1990.

Florence was President and Treasurer of the Crestview PTA, a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, was a member of the Rosary Society and for a period of time was in charge of funeral dinners. She enjoyed travel, photography, quilting, gardening and raising a variety of flowers. She also enjoyed and participated in activities with her grandchildren.

Florence is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; and sister, Eleanor Jacobs. She is survived by her three children, Paul (Karen) Moran, Michael (Vickie) Moran and Krista (Scott) Baskerville; her six grandchildren, Melissa, Jonathon, Alexander, Alison, Mackenzie and Matthew; 6 great-grandchildren; her brothers, John (Barbara) Hacke in Cascade, William (Marie) Hacke in Center Junction, Iowa.

Visitation will be 10 AM - 11 AM Saturday, February 15, 2025, at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass will start at 11 AM. The funeral mass will be livestreamed and recorded and may be viewed here starting Saturday morning prior to the service at www.ilesFuneralHomes.com

Burial will be 9:30 AM, Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association for research at act.alz.org and St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.
