Frances Bowers Cook Obituary

Frances May Bowers Cook, 92 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, IA.

Frances was born May 3, 1930, in Hubbard, IA to Arthur and Caroline (Hartman) Blome. She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1947. She attended Westmar College in LeMars and received a 2-year teaching degree in 1949. She received a 4-year degree in 1968 from William Penn College.

On November 11,1950 she married Dean Bowers in Hubbard, IA. They raised six children together. She married Arthur Cook on November 11, 2000, in Bella Vista, AR.

Frances taught in various school systems, the longest was in Redfield, IA. She was in various square dance clubs, enjoyed playing cards, sang in several choirs, sold Discovery Toys, and taught Body Recall. She enjoyed gardening and could make a beautiful bouquet out of a ditch of weeds.

Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Deanna (Chris) Jens of Ankeny, Donna (Leroy) Franklin of Terre Haute, IN, Merlin (Teresa) Bowers of Gilbert, Darla (Eric) Andersen of Cedar Falls, Denise (Mike) Ory of Earlham, and Debi (Wayne) Martens of Winterset, 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren & one on the way, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Cook, parents Arthur and Caroline (Hartman) Blome, her sister and brother -in -law, Shirley and Wally Mathes, her brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Lea Blome.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 30th in Van Meter at the Veterans Reception Center.
