Obituary

Francis Clifford French went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa, where he resided.

Francis was born in Van Meter, Iowa on September 22, 1919 to Harry and Ina French. He graduated from Van Meter High School with the Class of 1938. He served in the Pacific with the United States Navy during World War II. Upon completion of his military service he returned to Iowa where he managed Easter's Grocery Stores at various locations. Later, he and his wife, Laura operated Laura's Café in Booneville until their retirement 21 years later. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and playing musical instruments.

He married Laura Peppers on July 4, 1940 in Van Meter, Iowa. They had four children.

Francis is survived by his loving wife, Laura of Centerville, Iowa; children, Roberta (Dale) Weeks of Seymour, Iowa, Richard (Brenda) French of Perkasie, PA, Carol Schneider of Galveston, TX and Harry (Debra) French of Van Meter, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and his brother, Harold French of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Services will be held at 1 pm, Friday, May 2, 2008 with visitation held from 11 am to the time of service at Westover Funeral Home on Hickman in Des Moines. Burial will be at Booneville Cemetery in Booneville, Iowa. Online condolences may be made at www.ilesfuneralhomes.com. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, Centerville Office.
