Garry G. Porter, 90, of Des Moines, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on March 7, 2007 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Garry helped to defend his country by serving in the Navy during World War II on the USS Ponaganset. He was a life-time member of V.F.W. 9127. After the war, he settled into a career as a carpenter, and was a 65 year member of Carpenters Local 106.

Garry will be greatly missed and always remembered for his sense of humor and infectious laugh.

Garry is survived by his wife (of 69 years), Pauline, sons: Larry (Marge), Richard (Dorotha), Daniel (Carla), daughters: Sue Lyle (Ralph), Kay Stanfill (Mike), 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

A service celebrating Garry's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at the Resthaven Mausoleum 801 19th St. West Des Moines. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, March 9, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westover Funeral Home 6337 Hickman Rd.
