George Becker Obituary

George Garfield Becker was born May 25th, 1939, to Arnold and Jessie Becker in Goshen, Indiana. The following year he was diagnosed with paralytic polio. The family moved to Des Moines where he lived the rest of his life. In Jan. 1959 he graduated from Des Moines Technical High School.

After graduating he was employed at John Deere Des Moines Works. He was employed for 37 & 1⁄2 years. He liked to use the word employed because he felt if a person loved the job he was doing, he never worked a day in his life. At work he was introduced to the Masonic organization by a co- worker, which he joined. He later joined the Consistory and then the Za Ga Zig Shrine.

George met a beautiful gal named Bonnie Ruth Frey at a roller rink. They got married at First United Methodist church on April 17th, 1965. They lived on the eastside for 26 years and had two children, David born January 12, 1969, and Sheri born January 12, 1971.

George loved to work with his hands and mind, always having some project in his shop or garage. While vacationing at Lost Island Lake George found a piece of property for sale. Over the years the couple built two vacation homes. They enjoyed the time spent there and loved entertaining family and friends. George taught a lot of them to ski.

As George's health declined, the couple sold the vacation and residential properties, and moved to the Arbodale. He enjoyed taking part in many of the activities offered to the residents like having coffee with the guys and playing pool and cards. Living at the Arbordale suited the Beckers well.
