Obituary

Gioi Thi Le passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25 at Kavanagh Hospice Care Facility at the age of 82 years old in Des Moines, Iowa. Gioi was born on December 31, 1941 to her father Dau Le and mother Chao Thi Phan in Binh Dinh, Vietnam.

Prior to her starting her journey in the United States, Gioi spent most of her life in Vietnam embedded in Vietnamese Agriculture. From working in the rice paddies to having her own personal garden at home (fruit trees and vegetable gardens). Gioi later met her husband, Sang Nguyen, in her 20’s and have been together for the last 60 years.

Gioi and Sang began their life in the United States in 1995. Before retiring, Gioi was part of the housekeeping team for various hotels and corporate businesses. In her spare time, Gioi thoroughly enjoyed cooking meals for her family, gardening and watching Vietnamese soap operas (cải lương).

She leaves behind her husband Sang Nguyen, children Mai Nguyen of Vietnam, Huong Nguyen of Des Moines, Dung Nguyen of Des Moines, Hai Nguyen of Des Moines, and Thanh Nguyen of Des Moines and 11 grandchildren. Gioi was preceded by her parents, three siblings and son Long Nguyen.

Family will greet friends on Monday, December 2 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Iles Westover Funeral Home (6337 Hickman Rd, Des Moines, Iowa). Church services will be the following day at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (612 E 18th St, Des Moines, Iowa) at 11:00 am. Gioi will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery following church services.

The family is not accepting gifts. Your presence to honor Gioi is the greatest gift we could ask for, and we thank you in advance for your presence.
