Glenard H. Heckman, 94, died of natural causes on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. No services are planned.

Glen was born in Adair, IA on August 10, 1911 to Emil and Ada (Wedmeyer) Heckman. He lived there until joining the U.S. Navy in 1944. After returning from military service, he settled in Des Moines. He worked as a fireman for the Fort Des Moines Fire Department, a warehouseman for Dempster Pump, and retired from National Handcraft Company. He was a 60 year member of American Legion, Post No. 669, and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post No. 9662. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Glen is survived by his son, G.W. "Jerry" (Jean) Heckman of Des Moines; two brothers, Paul (Beverly) Heckman of Marshalltown and Dean (Mary Ann) Heckman of Adair; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, three sisters and two brothers.
