Obituary

Edith “Gwynne” Deason, 84, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 30th, 2025.

Gwynne was born on October 7, 1941, in Des Moines, the daughter of Paul Ashby and Gretchen (Utterback) Ashby. She grew up in Des Moines and, though widely traveled, made her home there for most of her life. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she attended Drake University, where she earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees.

Gwynne found her greatest joy in traveling and exploring new places. She was always planning her next trip, and her stories, photographs, and souvenirs became cherished reminders of the many adventures she embraced throughout her life. In addition to her love of travel, Gwynne was a devoted mother and grandmother who treasured time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ronald Deason; her two daughters, Rebecca Deason (Robert Anderson) and Amanda Michels (Jason Michels); and her four grandchildren, Ellie, Casey, Emma, and Elizabeth.

Gwynne was preceded in death by her father, Paul Ashby, and her mother, Gretchen Utterback. Family and friends will be received at Dunn’s Funeral Home, Des Moines, Iowa, on January 3rd, 2026 from 11am until the start of the service at 12pm.

Interment will take place at Masonic Cemetery following the funeral ceremony - Glendale, Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mission Cancer Foundation,
