Obituary

Harold C. Mack, 85, of Dallas Center, passed away August 12, 2015 in his home, surrounded by family. He was born December 21, 1929 in Wayne Township, Darke County, Ohio. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Royer on August 16, 1959.

Harold's early education was in Bradford, Ohio, graduating in 1947. He continued his education at Manchester College in Indiana, graduating in 1953. He went on to take graduate classes at Purdue University and Drake University.

Harold was a junior high and high school mathematics teacher in Ohio and in the Des Moines Public School System. His teaching career continued in Jos, Nigeria with 2 years (1954 - 1956) of alternative service working in the position of business manager and instructor at Hillcrest School on behalf of the Foreign Mission Commission, General Brotherhood Board, Church of the Brethren. After retiring from teaching, Harold worked for the State of Iowa as a labor market research economist.

Harold's faith was a central part of his life. He was a life time member of the Church of the Brethren, serving his church in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, youth leader, deacon, treasurer, and board member at both the local and district levels. He enjoyed managing his farm, genealogy research, travel and many family activities. His love of numbers and problem solving kept his mind busy throughout his life.

Harold is survived by his wife JoAnn of 56 years, his four children James (Suellen) Mack of Elgin, IL, Kathryn Mack of Rochester, MN, Susan (Gary) Mack-Overla of Dallas Center, IA and Carol (Mike Sawyer) Mack of Leesburg, VA, grandchildren Anna and Rachel Overla, Morgan Mack Sawyer, Leah and Jenna Mack and brother John Mack of Lexington, KY. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert (Wilbur)Isaac Mack and Myrtie (Myrtle)Olive Boomershine Mack and his brother Donald Mack.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00pm, with celebration of life service to begin at 2:00pm, Monday, August 17, 2015 at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren in rural Adel, Iowa.
