Harold D. Porter, 78, of Urbandale, died on March 28, 2008, at the Urbandale Healthcare center, from complications of Parkinson's disease. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at Indianola Heights Christian Church, 3139 SE Eighth Street, Des Moines, of which he was a member. Internment will be at Waukee cemetery.

Mr. Porter was born in Enid, Oklahoma and was raised in Colorado, Nebraska, and has lived in the Des Moines area the past 65 years. He graduated from Tech High School of Des Moines, in 1947, where he studied radio and electronics. He had worked for radio stations KCBC and KIOA as a broadcast engineer. He was a maintenance foreman for Firestone and Massey Ferguson.

He also worked for Honeywell in Welsley, MA. He retired from the Urbandale Public Schools, where they employed him as a computer technician. He enjoyed building houses, his computer work, and also his Church, where he served as a Deacon. Harold served on the Compensation Commission for Polk County for many years.

Harold will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Delores Porter, his three daughters, Cynthia (Donald) Frye, Christine (Todd) Drake, both of Des Moines, Susan (Jim) Gortmaker of Murfreesboro, TN and his sister Donna Bingham of San Jose, CA. He is also survived by two stepsons, Fred Weeks Jr. and Jeffrey (Vicki) Weeks of Des Moines and a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Rick) Meehl of Sun City West, AZ. He leaves fourteen grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mafalda, his brother, James and his parents. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
