Harold Hunter Morris, 85, of Waukee, died of cancer at Kavanagh House April 1, 2005. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005 at the Waukee Christian Church and burial at the Waukee Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday April 3 at the Waukee Christian Church from 3 to 7 p.m. with family present 5 to 7 p.m.

His memory may be honored with a gift to Waukee Christian Church or Waukee VFW. Harold was born on December 27, 1919, he was the first child of Floy C. Hunter and Paul D. Morris. Harold was a graduate of Waukee High School. Harold graduated from the National Radio and Electrical School of Los Angeles. Then he attended Iowa State College. With the start of World War II, Harold enlisted in the Navy and honorably served in the Submarine Service for 3.5 years. His Navy service took him to Stillwater. Oklahoma; San Francisco, CA; New London, Connecticut; and Pearl Harbor.

After the War ended Harold returned to the family farm east of Waukee and worked the land for 40 years. While working the farm he also worked full time at Iowa Power and Light (Mid America Energy) as an electronic technician. He retired in 1982 but continued to farm until 1986.

In retirement, Harold and his wife, Velda, divided their year between their home in Waukee and their home in Mesa AZ. He was very proud of his family, his Waukee heritage, and his family farm.

He would be pleased that his services are being held just a few hundred feet from where he was born.

Harold was a active member of the Waukee Christian Church where he served as secretary of the church board and elder. He enjoyed traveling, square dancing, target shooting, and collecting firearms.

Harold loved anything "John Deere". He will be remembered for his strong convictions, his work ethic, and the love he shared with his wife of 63 years, (his sweetie) Velda Buterbaugh Morris.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Edger John Morris in 2003.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Velda of Waukee; son, Jerry of Plano, Texas; son, Terry and wife Cynthia of Bedford, Texas; sister, Suzanne Morris Yates and husband Marold of Normal, Ill; grandchildren, Christina Long and husband Alan, Bobbie Watson and husband Allen, Sarah Mathews and husband Reagan, Charles Morris, Scott Morris, Paul Morris and wife AIlison, and Michael Morris and wife Becky; great-grandchildren, Cody McCracken; Lauren Mathews; Draegan Watson; Ashton Long; Brysen Long, and Cole Mathews; a large extended family, his Waukee friends and his friends from the Silver Sands Trailer Court in Mesa AZ.
