Harold Robert "Red" Aller, 84, died Monday, May 28 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Visitation is at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn's Chapel on Thursday, May 31, from 4-7:00 PM, with a vigil service beginning at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Harold's life at 10:00 AM at Saint Ambrose Cathedral on Friday, June 1st. A private burial service will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Harold was born June 23, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa. Following service in the US Army and Korea, he married Katherine Ann Kleber on September 16, 1950. He worked as an electrician at Keith Electric for 40 years. Harold was a talented craftsman and spent many hours in his workshop creating family treasures including furniture and dollhouses. Harold also took great pleasure in his family and especially enjoyed following the musical, academic, and athletic pursuits of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Harold was a member of Saint Ambrose Cathedral where he served as an usher. All his many friends and fellow mall walkers will miss him.

In addition to his parents, John and Goldie, two sisters, Mary and Helen, preceded Harold in death.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine; three children, Kathleen (Gene) Meyer of Winterset, IA, Carolyn Kisner of Davenport, IA, John (Karen) Aller of Des Moines, IA; seven grandchildren, Matt (Alicia) Meyer, Adam Meyer, Abby (Joe) Crisp, Ted (Jen) Kisner, Kathryn Kisner, Alex Aller, and Emily Aller, and three great grandchildren, Nicholas Meyer, Grace Meyer, and Isabella Crisp. A brother, James and two sisters, Betty and Barbara, also survive Harold.

The family offers sincere thanks to all the medical professionals at John Stoddard Cancer Center and especially the staff on third floor Powell for their exceptional care and compassion during Harold's extended stays. Everyone on staff from doctors and nurses to transporters and housekeepers treated Harold with the greatest respect and kindness.
