Obituary

Harry Linn Branscomb, 86, of Des Moines died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at the Grandview Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Branscomb had resided in the Des Moines area all of his life. While living in Pleasant Hill, Iowa he was a council member and mayor of that city.

Illness forced his retirement in 1978 after 14 years as an International Representative with the International Printing and Graphic Communications Union. He had also served as Treasurer for the Des Moines Printing and Graphic Communications Union, Local 86 and was Past President of the Mid-West Conference of Pressroom Unions. Prior to this he was a pressman at the Meredith Publishing Company.

He was a pilot and veteran of the Air Force during World War II, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant. He remained active in flying as a member in the Meredith Flying Club and the North Field Flying Club. He had also belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association and until recently he was a Colonel of the Confederate Air Force in Harlingen, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Des Moines; daughter, Carol Lyn (H. Alan) Bowers of Rogers, Arkansas; son, Thomas M. (Heidi) Branscomb of Portland, Oregon; brother, Ronald "Ted" (Marilyn) Long of Grimes; four grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Friends may call after 3 p.m., Tuesday, at Grandview Park Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
