Hazel Glabreth, 99, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Scottish Rite Park. A private burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery. A memorial service will take place Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Scottish Rite Park.

Hazel was born on a farm in Mitchell County, April 1, 1909 the daughter of John and Belle Hodson. She moved to Plymouth, Iowa and attended both grade school and high school there. Hazel attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette, Iowa and then went on to graduate from Drake University. She taught school in Maynard, Iowa and the Des Moines Public Schools until her retirement in 1973. Hazel was married to W. Henry Galbreth in 1934.

Hazel belonged to the First United Methodist Church, the Downtown Kiwanis Ladies Club and Chapter IJ, P.E.O. She was a life member of both the Iowa State Education Association and the National Education Association. Hazel was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Iowa Retired School Personnel Association, the Des Moines Retired Teachers Association, the Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Honor Society for Women in Education.

Hazel enjoyed various church activities, reading and sewing.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, W. Henry Galbreth in 1992. She is survived by her son, William Galbreth of Urbandale and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials in honor of Hazel can be made to the First United Methodist Church or to Scottish Rite Park.
