Henry Ehm, 99, went to sleep and died peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at KATY Manor Nursing Home, in Pilot Grove, MO. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dean Hoferer officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Tuesday, at the Church. Private committal services will take place at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery, in Des Moines.

Serving as honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Jeff D. Ehm, Scot R. Schalk, Kristen J. Paulson, Bruce K. Schalk, Laurel M. Galles and Alison J. Balcom.

Henry was born the son of Johann and Katherine Pope Ehm on August 4, 1905, in Burkersdorf, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in August of 1926. Henry married Maria Anna Schenk on October 28, 1928, in Des Moines, where they made their home. She preceded him into eternal life on April 23, 1977. Henry worked in the millwork business until 1948, when he founded the Henry Ehm Cabinet Fixtures Company in Des Moines, until he retired in 1970.

Henry was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church since 1926, and a member of the Izaak Walton League since 1946, of which he was a Past Honorary President.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his son, Phillip D. Ehm and his wife Peggy A. of Bella Vista, AR; daughter, Elaine P. Schalk and her husband James R. of Boonville, MO; 6 grandchildren, Jeff Ehm and his wife Cindi of Plymouth, MN, Scot Schalk and his wife Beth of Burnsville, MN, Kristen Paulson and her husband Mark of Cedar Rapids, IA, Bruce Schalk and his wife Marsha also of Burnsville, Laurel Galles and her husband Kyle of West Des Moines and Alison Balcom and her husband Clark of Olathe, KS; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that any memorial contributions be made to either the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
